Lewes District Council Fails to Comply With Freedom of Information Act

Lewes District Council (LDC) has failed to comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act in relation to an FOI request submitted on September 13.

The request indirectly related to matters arising from an enquiry I made about the New Homes development that is planned for the Buckle Car Park in Seaford.

The act requires organisations to respond within 20 working days but LDC did not send their reply until October 20, after I chased them for a response.

The request was made up of 2 parts:

  1. They were asked to search their mailboxes for any emails containing 4 specific pieces of text.  The response only contained the results for 1 out of the 4 items requested.
  2. They were also asked to search their mailboxes for any internal correspondence between their staff relating to a previous enquiry.  The number of items this returned was surprisingly low.

LDC has been asked to carry out a formal review of this request, which may take up to 40 days.

A further post will follow indicating in more detail the nature of and reason for the FOI.
