Crime on Public Transport – Do You Know How to Contact Police Discreetly?

Suppose you are on a train, bus or other public transport and you see a crime taking place … or perhaps you are concerned about someone’s behaviour.  What can you do?

You could call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or dial 999 in an emergency.  Doing so could draw attention to the fact that you are the person who is reporting them.  A quite valid concern is that you may end up on the receiving end of abuse from the individual(s) in question.

A more discreet way of reporting an issue is by texting 61016.  This way you can let the police know about a problem without the perpetrator(s) knowing you are reporting them.
