Health Scare Scam

On the Saga website Paul Lewis warns of a health scare scam in which people receive emails claiming the recipient has a low white blood cell count and may have cancer.

This type of email could worry anyone who receives it.  Those who have recently had a blood test may fall for this scam and click the email attachment, infecting their PC with malware that may steal data or be used to launch other scams.

If you receive such an email delete it.  It is always advisable not to click the attachment on any email unless you know exactly what that attachment is.  Even attachments from friends may contain viruses, if their computer has been infected.

The same article reminds of the risks of signing up to “free trials”, as does a recent Consumer Lookout post.
